The Boat
What is the perfect boat? There are as many answers to this question as there are sailors around. For us, the perfect boat means that we feel safe while having fun sailing it. For us, the perfect boat is our Jollity. Not because it’s the most comfortable one, but because it’s a fast, fun to sail and safe.
The boat was built nearly 40 years ago in the Netherlands by Royal Huisman to participate in offshore regattas. So it was a quick boat 40 years ago. Today, she can by no means be compared to modern racing yachts. On the other hand, our SY Jollity is quite comfortable compared to a racing yacht, fitted with everything a boat needs to cruise around the globe.
The best thing about here is, that she is our home. When traveling around the globe, being in new places every week, it is amazing to have a home that travels with you all the time. So she is our little island we call home.

Electric cooking
Here on SY Jollity we cook, bake and produce fresh water with solar power. We do not have any other source of electricity than our two 375 Watt solar panels. On a good day in the Caribbean, we get between 3-3.5 kWh of power from the sun. In the northern European summer, we could even get up to nearly 5 kWh. This is enough to power to cook meals, bake bread every second day, produce 20 liters of water a day, have the fridge running, use our navigational equipment and charge all our electronics. It is even enough to play games on our laptops. For the rainy days, we have a 540 Ah (6.5 kWh) Lithium (LiFePO4) battery. That is sufficient to comfortably live for 3 days.
